doepatronus:

“Charming as were all Mrs. Radcliffe’s works, and charming even as were the works of all her imitators, it was not in them perhaps that human nature, at least in the Midland counties of England, was to be looked for.”
Northanger Abbey, by Jane Austen

my favourite austen of all time ever ever ever. i’ve heard that austenites (or w/e they are called) often turn their nose up at northanger, but i think the settings and characterisation and message and sheer humour of this book make it well worth several reads. it’s an absolute gem.
